About BES

Bangladesh Earthquake Society was established in 2002 to promote research, development, and awareness in earthquake engineering.

Who We Are

The Bangladesh Earthquake Society (BES) is a professional organization registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. Our headquarters is located in Dhaka, with local chapters across Bangladesh.

BES provides a forum for scientists and engineers of various specializations, social scientists, and disaster management specialists interested in earthquakes to exchange ideas and collaborate on solutions.

We are closely affiliated with the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE) and the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

For Candidates

  • Must be a member in good standing of BES
  • Membership dues must be paid up to date
  • Must have been a member for at least one year
  • Must be proposed and seconded by current BES members
  • No office bearer shall hold the same office for more than two terms
  • Secretary General and Treasurer must be Dhaka-based

For Voters

  • Must be a registered individual member of BES
  • Membership must be active as of March 12, 2026
  • All dues and fees must be current
  • Valid BES membership card or government-issued photo ID required
  • Proxy voting is NOT permitted

Nomination Process

  1. Obtain the Nomination Form from the Election Committee or Room No. 506, Dr. JRC Civil Engineering Building, BUET, Dhaka. The price of the Nomination Form is BDT 2,000 per post.
  2. Complete all sections of the form accurately.
  3. Obtain signatures from one Proposer and one Seconder (both must be current BES members).
  4. Submit the completed form by April 1, 2026, 5:00 PM.
Submission Methods:
• In person at the BES secretariat office (pay BDT 2,000 per post, cash)
• By email to mutsuddy@ce.buet.ac.bd (pay BDT 2,000 per post to bKash: +88 01613 138 283)

Each candidate can compete for ONE post only. If a candidate submits multiple nomination forms, he needs to withdraw all except one by April 5, 2026.
